Quality Processes Presented to Our Students in the Orientation Programme

29 Eylül 2026 Salı

Orientation programme quality session

Within our University's 2026-2027 academic year orientation programme, which began on 28 September 2026, information sessions titled “Quality, Accreditation and You” for our newly enrolled students have started at the Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Conference Hall. The sessions are delivered by Lect. Osman Serdal Karapınar and Lect. Şevkiye Babacan, members of the Coordinatorship of Accreditation, Academic Evaluation and Quality.

The presentation explains the concept of quality through its counterpart in students' daily university life. Quality is conveyed as the unit keeping the promise it makes to the student, with concrete examples such as the course being delivered as described in its syllabus, the academic adviser being reachable, and the library and laboratories being in working order. Accreditation is defined as the examination of a programme against particular criteria by an independent team from outside the institution, and its recurring nature is emphasised.

One part of the session is devoted to the question of what students' feedback actually achieves. How a survey comment is examined, how it is assessed together with examination results, and how it turns into a decision that adds practice hours to a course are shown step by step. The value of writing feedback concretely is conveyed through the sentences of a student who states which week's topic calls for more worked examples, which laboratory hours suit them, or which resource they need in the library.

The presentation also introduces the Coordinatorship's remit, the surveys at kalite.giresun.edu.tr, the Quality Glossary and the Quality Student Society, and the short video series on the Quality Screen; the application steps of the Giresun University Communication Centre (GİMER), through which complaints, suggestions and requests are submitted, are explained. How to read a course information package is shown through weekly content, learning outcomes and assessment criteria. The session closes with four concrete steps students can take during the term.
