Our university’s “Giresun University Directive on the Recognition of Prior Learning, Course Exemption and Adaptation Procedures in Associate and Undergraduate Programs” has been comprehensively reviewed and updated within the framework of the quality assurance approach in higher education, and entered into force with the decision of our University Senate dated 09 July 2026 and numbered 297-5.

The update aims to transform exemption and adaptation processes from a merely administrative procedure into a learning-outcome-based, objective and traceable evaluation approach. Accordingly, the directive has been aligned with the Turkish Qualifications Framework and the relevant legislation, and evaluations are now based on matching the learning outcomes of courses.

Prominent elements of the new regulation include strengthening the principle of recognition of prior learning (RPL), tying exemption decisions to the criterion that at least 75% of the learning outcomes of the courses are met, and incorporating into the process the “Course Matching and Learning Outcomes Analysis Form” (Annex-3) and the “Course Exemption and Adaptation Procedures Commission Decision” form (Annex-2), which document this evaluation. In this way, transparency, consistency and evidence-based practice in exemption processes have been enhanced.

Carried out as part of quality assurance processes, this work not only ensures a fair and predictable operation in favor of students, but also reinforces the “recognition based on learning outcomes” approach expected in program and institutional accreditation evaluations.
