A new course, “Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Student Participation,” has been added to our University’s common (university-wide) elective course pool as of the 2026–2027 Fall Semester. The course will be delivered remotely through UZEM by Assist. Prof. Dr. Hakan SİPAHİ.
The course aims to introduce students to the concept of quality assurance in higher education, national and international quality assurance approaches, the institutional accreditation and program accreditation processes of the Council of Higher Education Quality Board (YÖKAK), the logic of continuous improvement based on the PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) cycle, and the role of student participation in these processes.
Within the scope of the course, topics such as the operation of quality commissions and unit student quality commissions, satisfaction surveys and stakeholder feedback mechanisms, student representation, and the translation of feedback into decision-making and improvement will be addressed. The aim is thus for students to internalize the quality culture and to participate actively and meaningfully in these processes.
As the course is part of the university-wide common elective pool, it can be chosen by students in all units. Our students may select this course from among the common elective courses during the course registration period. Since the course is delivered remotely (UZEM), it is suitable for participation from different campuses and units.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Hakan SİPAHİ is a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration (Division of Management and Organization), Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Giresun University. He also serves as Deputy Coordinator of the Accreditation, Academic Evaluation and Quality Coordinatorship, and contributes actively to quality assurance processes as a YÖKAK institutional external evaluator and a program accreditation evaluator.
